Over 5 million people in the U.S. are living with dementia, a number expected to grow to 13 million over the next 20 years. The majority of those living with dementia continue to live in their community homes with the support and care and family and friends. Our country worked for decades to ensure that people living with physical disabilities maintained access to community. We now need to ensure that people living with cognitive impairment can age and thrive in community. We can do this by fostering “dementia friendly” communities and a national collaboration has organizes to support and offer resources to communities working to become dementia friendly.
